IN-PERSON COUPLES COUNSELLING IN CHILLIWACK + ONLINE ACROSS BC
Couples Counselling in Chilliwack, BC
Support for couples who want to communicate more openly, understand one another more deeply, and find a healthier way forward together.
Maybe the same argument keeps happening, no matter how many times you try to resolve it. Perhaps you’ve grown distant, trust has been damaged, or stress and anxiety have begun shaping the way you relate to one another. Couples counselling offers a place to slow the cycle down and understand what is happening underneath it.
When It Feels Like You’re Having the Same Argument on Repeat
Small disagreements turn into familiar fights. One person pushes for answers while the other withdraws. You may feel unheard, defensive, lonely, or unsure how to say what you need without making things worse. Even when you both want the relationship to feel different, it can be difficult to step outside patterns that have taken hold over time.
Anxiety, grief, parenting demands, health concerns, financial pressure, and other life changes can add another layer. The relationship may be carrying more than either of you realized.
Couples Counselling Can Support You With:
Recurring conflict and communication breakdowns
Emotional distance or disconnection
Rebuilding trust after hurt or betrayal
Anxiety and stress within the relationship
Difficulty expressing needs or setting boundaries
Intimacy and affection concerns
Parenting disagreements
Family and blended-family dynamics
Grief, loss, or a shared life transition
Separation, divorce, or uncertainty about the relationship
Major decisions about work, family, health, or the future
Breaking patterns that no longer serve the relationship
you don’t have to do it alone
Couples Counselling Isn’t About Deciding Who Is Right
The purpose of couples counselling isn’t to choose a side or keep score. It’s to create enough room for both partners to speak honestly, listen differently, and recognize the pattern they’ve become caught in together.
What looks like anger on the surface may be covering fear, hurt, loneliness, or a longing to feel important to one another again. Withdrawal may feel like rejection to one partner and self-protection to the other. When these reactions happen quickly, it becomes easy to lose sight of what each person is actually trying to communicate.
By slowing those moments down, we can begin to identify what triggers the cycle, how each of you responds, and what might help you relate to one another with greater clarity and care.
The relationship is the focus, but each partner’s experiences, needs, and perspective matter.
From Reacting to Understanding
Relationship patterns can become remarkably efficient. A familiar tone, expression, or unfinished sentence may be enough to set an entire argument in motion.
Counselling gives you a chance to interrupt that momentum. Rather than preparing your defence or searching for the perfect rebuttal, you can begin to hear what sits beneath your partner’s words. Conversations that once ended in blame or silence may gradually become more direct, thoughtful, and productive.
For some couples, this work is about repairing closeness. For others, it’s about adjusting to parenthood, moving through grief, or deciding what comes next. There may be old hurts to address and new ways of communicating to practise.
A healthier relationship isn’t one without conflict. It’s one where conflict doesn’t erase care, curiosity, or respect.
A Grounded, Practical Approach to Relationship Counselling
I offer couples counselling with warmth, honesty, and respect for both partners. Each of you will have room to talk about how you experience the relationship, including the moments when your memories or interpretations differ.
Our sessions may explore communication habits, emotional triggers, recurring roles, unmet needs, and the thoughts or fears influencing how you respond to one another. Alongside those conversations, we can work on practical ways to express yourselves more clearly, regulate difficult emotions, and approach conflict without immediately falling into the usual pattern.
Anxiety can have a considerable effect on relationships. It may show up as reassurance-seeking, irritability, avoidance, overthinking, or difficulty staying present during a hard conversation. My approach considers both the emotional and physical experience of stress, helping each partner recognize when their nervous system has taken over.
When appropriate and comfortable for both partners, I may also incorporate mindfulness, emotional-regulation practices, or EFT tapping. These are tools available within the counselling process, not requirements or a replacement for talking through what has brought you here.

Questions About Couples Counselling
Frequently asked questions about counselling, how it works, and how you’ll know when you’re ready.
-
You don’t need to wait until the relationship is on the verge of ending. Couples often seek counselling when communication has become difficult, the same conflict keeps returning, or they feel less connected than they once did. Counselling can also support couples through transitions before those pressures develop into deeper resentment.
-
The first session gives each partner an opportunity to share what has brought you to counselling, how you currently experience the relationship, and what you hope may change. We’ll begin identifying the concerns you share, the places where your perspectives differ, and the patterns we may want to explore together.
-
Couples counselling is not about deciding which partner is right. My role is to understand the relationship from both perspectives, notice the cycle happening between you, and help each of you communicate in a way the other can better hear and understand.
-
Couples counselling is most effective when both partners are willing to participate. You don’t have to agree on every issue or feel equally confident about beginning, but each person should be prepared to take part in the process.
-
Couples counselling sessions are available in 50- and 75-minute formats. We can discuss which option will give you enough time to work through your concerns without leaving sessions feeling rushed.
-
Yes. Online couples counselling is available across British Columbia, with in-person appointments offered in Chilliwack. Both partners can attend from the same location, provided you have a private place to talk without interruptions.
-
Yes. Anxiety can influence communication, trust, intimacy, decision-making, and the way each partner responds during conflict. Counselling can help you recognize how anxiety is entering the relationship and develop more supportive ways of responding to it together.
-
Privacy is an important part of couples counselling. Because both partners are participating, confidentiality can work differently than it does in individual counselling. I will explain the boundaries and expectations clearly before we begin so that everyone understands how information will be handled.
